The Minnesota Mural for Animals: A Landmark of Compassion

A bold new piece of public art is coming to Minneapolis, and you can help bring it to life!

Compassionate Action for Animals is launching a project to install a large-scale mural designed to inspire compassion for animals and connect countless people with meaningful ways to take action.

Located at Vegan East in South Minneapolis, this highly visible mural will combine public art, animal advocacy, and community organizing in a way that’s never been done before.

    Why This Project Matters

This one-of-a-kind public landmark will inspire the public to expand their circle of care to all animals. Through compelling imagery and interactive elements, this mural will encourage thousands of daily passersby to reflect and take action to create a kinder world for animals. Movements grow when they are visible, and this mural will serve as both a powerful public statement and a pipeline connecting the broader population with our community of changemakers.

An Innovative Vision for Public Art

From what we know, we believe this to be the first large-scale animal rights mural in the Upper Midwest.

What’s especially exciting is that the mural will be interactive. Viewers will be able to scan a QR code or visit a URL on the art to access an audio tour of the mural and find concrete ways to get involved.

Our vision is to create a mural that is:

      • Warm and inviting — drawing people in through beauty and emotional connection

      • Thought-provoking — encouraging viewers to rethink their relationship with animals

      • Action-oriented — connecting people with practical ways to make a difference

This project is intended not only to inspire passersby, but to create lasting ripple effects throughout our community.

      The Roadmap

Since early 2025, a volunteer committee has been working on laying the groundwork for this project.

The project has already completed several major milestones:

      • Defined the project’s vision and values
      • Secured a mural location in South Minneapolis
      • Hosted a public listening session to gather community ideas
      • Released a public call for artists
      • Received 50 artist applications

      Next steps include:

      • Selecting finalists and commissioning paid concept sketches
      • Choosing and refining the final design
      • Raising funds for artist pay, supplies, and installation
      • Painting and installing the mural (tentatively planned for Fall 2026)
      • Hosting a public ribbon-cutting celebration
      • Expanding the mural’s impact through events, outreach, and social media

You Can Help Bring the Mural to Life

To make this vision a reality, we need to raise $10,000+ for artist compensation and materials.

We can’t do this without your support. Every dollar brings us one step closer to creating a piece of public art that will open hearts and shift perspectives so that we can create a kinder future for animals.

We invite you to be part of this first-of-its-kind project. With your help, we can build a landmark of compassion that beautifies and inspires the community for many years to come.

Thank you for considering making a donation today!
